Follow these steps in order — each one narrows your shortlist and prevents the most common overpayment: wrong capacity.
Measure length × width for square footage and note sun exposure, floor level and window area. Top-floor and west-facing rooms carry higher heat load and may need the next size up.
Start from: ~1 ton for 100–130 sq ft, 1.5 ton for 130–180 sq ft, 2 ton for 180–260 sq ft. Treat these as starting points, confirmed by a technician for unusual rooms.
Long daily cooling (most of the day through summer) favours inverter; brief use in a guest room keeps non-inverter competitive. Read our inverter comparison.
Compare energy labels only at equal capacity. Keep the thermostat at 25–26°C, seal door gaps and clean filters — these affect bills more than small label differences.
Split the compressor warranty from parts/service cover, note exclusions, and confirm a service contact in your district — not only Dhaka.
Get an itemised quote: unit price, copper pipe beyond free length, brackets, drilling, breaker work, delivery. Confirm gas charging and leak testing responsibility.
